 I currently live in Jacksonville, Florida with my 5 yr old daughter. I was blessed to be able to stay at home with her until she went to Kindergarten. Now she is in a Spanish Immersion/Montessori School. Everything a Kindergartner learns she is learning in Spanish. (They don’t speak English in class until 3rd grade.) I’m hoping she’ll grow up bilingual as many of us did.

Before I became a mom I worked as a Mental Health Court Liaison in the Duval County Jail, advocating for mentally ill inmates before the Judge and State Attorney. Before that, I was as a Case Manager for mentally ill clients who were released from the State Hospital, coordinating their assimilation back into society. Currently I’m a Social Worker with the Florida Department of Health.

Last Known Sighting:  I’ve only missed a few reunions since I moved to the States in the mid-80s. I keep in touch with a lot of Zonians such as Rob Woerner, Kelly Snook, Lisa Tyree, Lynn Henderson, Kristy Konnagan, Denise Smith-Coates, Dina Gehringer-Muniz, and Patricia Frank-North. Of course I also keep in touch with Steve Steuart since he’s married to my sister Deanna (CHS 80). They have 4 boys and live in Jacksonville as well.

Elisa Misses:  I think I miss the safety and familiarity of the former Canal Zone. A few of my favorite things: A variety of beaches 1 hour away,  "KC" hamburgers,  The Causeway,  Gatun Yacht Club,  Balboa "Yatch" Club,  Panama & Soberana Beer,  The "Puke & Choke" in San Carlos,  Gatun Lake,  Napoli Pizza,  25 cent Raspados,  Sancocho, Empanadas, Tortillas, Micha bread, Platano, Ceviche, Panamanian Chinese food,  Man's Step, Gatun,  Cayuco races,  Traveling on the train to the "other side" for football games,  The Washington Hotel, Colon,  Taking your cooler into Quarry Heights theater,  Bohios,  Guinips,  the Spinning Club. The best times I had in Panama were when I went to stay at the beach with a bunch of friends for a few days....you know who you are.  I treasure those memories!

I am currently living in Dieburg, Germany with my husband, Manuel Azcarraga (BHS 1976) and two of my three sons. Alex, age 20, has enlisted in the US Coast Guard for some life memories and adventure. Adam, age 18, just graduated from high school in Hanau, Germany and will be attending college in Tallahassee next year. Andre, age 15, just started high school and is active in his sports activities.

I am working with the US Army as a civilian, managing human resource programs at Darmstadt, Germany. Manuel is working with the Defense Logistics Agency as a Safety Mgr. It has been a great eye-opener living overseas, in Germany, giving us the opportunity to travel and see another side of the world. Nothing like Panama, but quite an experience.

Last Known Sighting: Haven't been able to hook up with any Zonians at all. The last person I spoke to was Francisco Negron two years ago, in Florida. Since then I have relocated to the beautiful state of California. I really would like to re-connect with any zonian from my era if you know what I mean.

I miss: What I miss the most its the definitely the food. God how I miss Tamales, Carimanolas, Tortillas, Empanadas. And one of the best things we had, Pizza. I miss the beaches, my parents house at San Carlos, having people over the weekend and party and party! My friends and family.

Last Known Sighting:  I stay in touch with Chip Oliver, BHS '81. He visits me every Winter on his annual snowboarding trip. I miss a lot of friends, but I have lost touch with most of them.

I miss: The friends that I've lost touch with.  I certainly remember all the fun, partying, good times, the beers, surf, rugby. I loved HS!  I miss the beauty of the country. The Interior. The People that lived there. I do dream of living such a simple lifestyle again!

Comments: I moved to Utah about 12 years ago, from Florida, to get away from the big city, and fall in love with the mountains! I love to ski, snowshoe, mountain bike, hike, camp, travel, and especially, I love to drink fine wine! I live alone high up in the hills outside of Park City, Utah. My #1 traveling companion is my chocolate lab Cassidy. Give me a buzz if your travels bring you to Utah!

Last known sighting:  I live close to Mario Haynes. We just recently had a Panamanian
presentation part of the Molas Association (A Panamanian/get together festival
that is celebrate every year). Lucinda Scotland now Williams organized a Panamanian association and we do presentations and send the money to orphanages and day care centers in Panama to provide with food and supplies.

Comments: I am so happy to see all the pictures. Life is being good. I have three beaufiful kids. Glad to see everyone!

Neil Norton

Neil was born on August 11, 1964 in Ancon, Canal Zone. He was friends with everyone who ever met him, and he wanted to become a veterinarian. His best friend in 7th grade was Darrell Tipton. They used to ride their bikes everywhere. He loved to eat tacos and listen to Foreigner.

  Neil died in a car coming back from surfing at the beach in the year after graduation. He is survived by his parents, Joe and Ella Norton, his older brother Doug and a younger sister, Tamara.

    We will always remember him.

Last known sighting: Last year, Duncan Walton came to visit from Arizona. I constantly run into Zonians in the clubs I play in Fort Lauderdale.

  I miss: The Slide! Causeway, Yacht Club, the Mangoes on Amador. The Olympic sized swimming pools on base, with the high dives. (most pools in South Florida are 6'deep and 15' long) The jungles were really cool, I love telling people of the variety of animals I encountered exploring them.
